Old Time Chinese Cuisine is a unique Chinese restaurant around the Don Mills and Lawrence area (just north of the Shops at Don Mills). I found Old Time Chinese Cuisine very accessible, with room to breathe and enjoy a bite away from the bustle of downtown. If taking transit from downtown, take the 34 C bus from Eglinton station until Don Mills and then the 25B Bus North up Don Mills and Farmcote Rd. If driving, there is plenty of accessible parking in the plaza however it is about 10 spaces away from the entrance of the restaurant.
The entrance to the restaurant is accessible with a push button opener and no threshold. There are two doors at the entrance, one is 34” wide and the other is 33.5” wide. The pavement is level and there is a lot of space near the entrance to park a scooter/walker outside. There are curb cuts from the parking lot and bus stop on Don Mills. The restaurant has a small patio out back with a separate door that is quite wide, about 38” wide. The chairs on the patio are moveable and the tables are 29” high. The doorway from the patio to the restaurant is 33” wide with a small threshold.
As I approached the establishment and took a photo outside, I was quickly noticed. The owner, Sam, is quite the extrovert character. Inside, I learnt that Sam has done much of the art and design of the space. He has installed a small locomotive that blows what looks like real steam! In one part of the place there is even a small arched ceiling painted like the sky with small birds. The walls are painted with a few landscapes and resonate with a soft countryside vibe. Sam is very upbeat and will make sure you are well taken care of. The food was good and very fresh; though being the herbivore I am it was garlic bok choy and spring rolls for me.
There is a lot of open space around the tables which has 29” clearance underneath. The flooring is all smooth large tiles textured like wood. There are no level changes and none of the halls/exits/entrances were obstructed in any way. I would say about half of the seating is booths, and half is moveable tables and chairs. The accessible washroom is very large. The hall to the bathroom is 36” wide and there is a push button to open the door. The doorway here is 35”. There is a lever flush on your right side (if you were seated on the toilet) and a change table that is 35” high. There are two grab bars around the toilet. The sink is 33.5” high and the water operates by turning two levers. The soap is located beside the sink in a bottle.
Overall I had a great meal at Old Time Chinese Cuisine. I was impressed by the freshness of the food and the charisma of the owner!
