Le Papillon on Front is a lovely spot for French cuisine, being a part of the St. Lawrence neighbourhood since 1974. An impressive tenure in a touristy spot in the city. The restaurant was actually Toronto’s first creperie-Ooo la la! Today, you’ll find the classic crepes and french onion soup on the menu, as well as a variety of meat and pasta dishes. They also offer brunch, which was when we stopped in to check things out.
The restaurant is located just west of Church street on Front, with the accessible 504 streetcar stopping one block north at King and Church. Because of how busy the St. Lawrence Market area is, there are multiple paid parking options nearby.
There is a wide sidewalk leading up to the front entrance. The exterior-most entrance door has an automatic door opener and is 37” wide. There is then a second set of double doors, each 25” wide. These doors do not have an accessible button, but the host stand is right inside and the staff were happy to hold the doors open for us (before we even had a chance to ask for assistance). There is sufficient turning space at the front entrance, however probably not enough room to accommodate certain mobility devices you may want to leave there. But, the restaurant is spacious enough that the helpful staff won’t have a problem finding a place. There is smooth hardwood flooring throughout the venue.
There is a large private washroom down a wide hallway at the back of the restaurant. The door is 35” wide with a manual, lever handle and no automatic door opener. The toilet has grab bars behind and beside it, the floating sink is 29” high on the bottom side and 33” on the top side due to a thicker counter. It is 29” wide. The toilet, sink taps, soap dispenser and paper towel are all manual. There is also an infant change table in the washroom.
In our experience, the staff were all very gracious and accommodating. In addition to enjoying our meals, we found the Caesars to be perfectly spiced and the mimosas were a great juice-to-champagne ratio. With a warm feel, tasty cuisine, and potentially a chance for you to practice some French, we say allons-y!
