Mallo Coffee & Bar

785 Bathurst Street - Toronto - M5S 1Z5

Mallo Coffee & Bar is on Bathurst Street just south of Bloor Street West. Although it is a small space it is mighty awesome. Located in a new building facing Bathurst Street the front entrance is 34 inches wide and there is a very small metal threshold to cross. Unfortunately, the door does not have power assist but it was tied open on the summer day that I visited. I suspect that it is open most nice days.

The interior space is definitely on the small side but there are a few tables and booths inside and bar seating by the window as well. The lower tables are 29 ½ inches in height which worked well for me. The flooring is a smooth concrete without any carpeting. The bar height is clearly designed for someone who is standing but the staff did see me coming in and immediately asked if I needed any assistance. The payment terminal for cards is wireless so it can be brought around to customers as well.

There is a wheelchair accessible washroom down a hallway on the right-hand side of the space. There was a table near the hall that make the space narrow, but the table is not bolted down so it can be moved to make more space as needed and there was a not asking that no chairs be placed there. Also the washroom is in a cottage theme and really cute, even the door is wallpapered.

The washroom has a power assist door which is 37 inches wide and there is push button lock and emergency button on the inside. There are two grab bars next to the toilet but there are no automatic features on the toilet or sink, the sink height is at 34 inches.

As I’ve pointed out a few times here the overall space is small and that includes the washroom. If you’re visiting with a larger mobility device this may be a concern for you. If you’re just getting take out this is likely okay. There are also benches and a couple of small tables out on the sidewalk if it is a nice day.

Bathurst subway stations is very close by on the North side of Bloor Street and has elevators. The Bathurst streetcar also passes by this location. There is some street in the area as well but it is quite limited being downtown.

Personally, I love this space. While it is small, the decor is awesome with a cool vintage feel and real local art on the walls. The staff are really welcoming and seem to be having a good time working there which is nice to see. There is also a selection of alcoholic drinks that can be had for dine in or take out service if that’s more your thing.
